GigE Vision Camera IMX178

The Mercury 2 GigE camera line is a professional industrial vision camera featuring a GigE connection. GigE remains the preferred interface for cameras in conventional machine vision setups. The Mercury 2 series incorporates sophisticated functions such as decimation, binning, pixel skipping, image reversal, and digital shifting. This particular model suits applications that meet the following criteria:
- An industrial-grade camera
- Cable lengths up to 100 meters supported
- Cost-effective and straightforward cable installation
- Physical dimensions: 29x29x40.3mm
- Optional support for hardware triggering

For additional technical information, please refer to the industrial GigE Vision camera manual.

MTBF, warranty & product life cycle

Daheng Imaging manufactures over 100,000 industrial cameras annually, adhering to stringent quality standards. The mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeds 400,000 hours (equivalent to 45 years of continuous operation). These industrial cameras hold TÜV Rheinland certification and come with a three-year warranty. Following release, each camera model remains available for a minimum of seven years, with many models supported for significantly longer periods. Monochrome industrial camera

A monochrome camera, also called a black and white camera, provides benefits across numerous applications. While color cameras dominate the security market, industrial sectors often prefer monochrome cameras due to their higher light sensitivity, enhanced image sharpness, and reduced data volume compared to color models. These characteristics make them well-suited for image processing tasks. By choosing the appropriate lighting wavelength and lens filters, specific product features can be emphasized, enabling the capture of high-resolution, high-contrast images with monochrome cameras.

Industrial camera with PoE

Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology for GigE cameras allows both power supply and data transmission via a single Ethernet cable. This minimizes cable requirements and installation effort in applications that do not need hardware triggering or I/O functionality. For systems requiring I/O, powering the camera through an I/O connector is recommended. Cameras powered by PoE consume more power and generate additional heat compared to those powered via I/O connectors. PoE-enabled GigE cameras are physically larger than their non-PoE counterparts due to an extra PCB that separates Ethernet power from data signals and steps down voltage. This additional hardware increases cost relative to non-PoE models. The main benefit of PoE is simplified installation by reducing cable complexity.
