SWIR Lenses Gaining In Popularity

With SWIR cameras gaining in popularity, manufacturers of CCTV and machine vision lenses such as Kowa and Schneider Optics have recently introduced series of SWIR lenses. SWIR stands for Shortwave Infrared, where the peak sensitivity shifts from the visible (400-700nm) region to about 1200nm. These SWIR lenses have sensitivity to beyond 2 microns (2000nm).

Current fixed focal lengths include 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm.

In addition to the obvious high-end video surveillance applications, there are also a variety of industrial inspection (i.e., solar panel) and scientific research applications which can utilize this technology.

Please let us know if you have interest in these SWIR lenses, or have recently used them in a project.
